JOB TITLE: Animal Specialist

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Small Animal Specialist is responsible for the care and wellbeing of the small animals placed into their care.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates with breeders during intake, ensuring accountability for the health wellbeing of new pets, and ensures the variety of species meets our expectations.
Maintains record of pets into and out of their care, documenting which breeder they were received from, how they were cared for and at what frequency, and what store they were delivered to and when.
Schedules and coordinates all feedings, including the coordination of supplies, preparation of food, cleaning and sterilizing of feeding tools.
Prepares, cleans and maintains enclosures for the care of our pets.
Ensures proper sanitation procedures are followed.
Coordinates with Petland stores for the eventual transfer of pets out of their care.
Works with the veterinarian, as necessary.
Assists with inventory tasks at the store, as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Two to four years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong Animal Sensitivity
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standing –Frequently required to stand
Walking –Frequently required to walk
Sitting - Continually required to sit
Travelling – Occasionally required to travel
Finger Dexterity - Occasionally required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
Climb, Bend, Balance, Stoop, Kneel or Crawl - Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
Talking/Hearing - Continually required to talk or hear
Visual Accuity - Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard
Lifting/Pushing/Carrying – Not required to lift more than 75 lbs.
at a time with frequent lifting, pushing, or carrying of up to 25 lbs.
