Job Summary:
Provide transportation services to children and adults as assigned.
Maintain safe and clean vehicle, and assist with safety training of children, families and staff.
Between routes, assist with program operations as scheduled.
Essential Functions:
The Driver is primarily responsible for achieving the following outcomes for the Head Start/Early Head Start program:
1.
Education, Disabilities and School Readiness
Support the social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development of children on the bus, on field trips and in the classroom through quality interactions.
Establish developmentally appropriate bus rules that build trust, independence, respect and well-being of children.
Participate with education staff and families to implement behavior plan strategies for children on the bus.

Health and Safety
Foster safety awareness among children and adults on the bus and during program operations.
Participate in monthly bus evacuation drills and quarterly safety drills.
Follow universal precautions on the bus and during program operations.
3.
Family Engagement and Support
Provide a system of ongoing communication with families, assisting with messages and reminders.
Encourage families to become involved in the program, participate in program activities and support their children at school and home.
Respect and support the home language, culture and family composition of each family.
4.
Human Resources and Supervision
Substitute for other drivers when the need arises.
Other duties as assigned.
5.
Communication and Service Coordination
Attend full staff meetings.
Attend center meetings and team planning as assigned.
Recommend ways to improve program coordination.
6.
Planning, Analysis and Documentation
Accurately complete and submit all required forms and reports in a timely matter.
Participate in annual program self-assessment and ongoing monitoring.
7.
Operations and Facilities
Drive scheduled routes for classroom, field trips, appointments and events as scheduled.
Maintain a clean, safe and emotionally supportive environment that is centered on the needs and abilities of each child.
Inspect bus daily before first route to detect potential mechanical problems.
Arrange for maintenance and repairs with the Transportation Coordinator.
8.
Program Governance
Provide transportation of parents to Parent Committee and Policy Council meetings when requested.
9.
Professionalism and Leadership
Maintain confidentiality of children, families and staff.
Adhere to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
Attend driver training as required.
Must obtain and maintain certification in pediatric First Aid, CPR, Recognition of Communicable Disease, Child Abuse Recognition, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
Complete training in use of special equipment for accommodating needs of children with disabilities when needed.

Required Qualifications:
High-school diploma or equivalency
Commercial Driver?s License (CDL)
Twenty-five years of age or older
Valid Driver?s License and be insurable under agency policy.
Experience Driving a School Bus preferred
Must be able to successfully complete a drug screen
Must be able to successfully complete a background check
Must be able to successfully complete a health physical
