*Job Title: Interpreter *
*Job Grade: Seasonal part-time*
*Summary:* Directly involves servicing visitors to the historic site, in particular the Mansion; also, the performance of a variety of tasks which contribute to the educational objectives of the historic site.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
· Leads guided tours, participates in special events, interpretive programs, and other activities of an educational nature.
· Studies relevant historic resources and materials in order to answer questions, engage visitors in the stories of the Mansion, and make history come alive.
· Opens the Mansion before tour hours and secures the site at the end of the day.
· Clarifies rules of the Mansion to visitors and supervises the visitors while conducting tours.
· Communicates clearly historic information in a friendly yet authoritative manner.
· Tailors information to the age and interest of the visiting groups.
· Mentors volunteers assigned to the Mansion
· Perform light cleaning duties in the Mansion and Education Center
· May patrol and perform light security work involving the public’s safety and protection of historic site property.
· Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications:*
· High school graduate or the equivalent training and experience.
Prior work experience of six (6) months or more in a related position helpful.
· A demonstrated ability to absorb factual information and to communicate effectively with the public in a rational and understandable manner.
· Strong public speaking skills.
· Interest in history and continued study.
· Outgoing personality with a sense of humor.
· Works well with groups of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.
· Requires basic arithmetic skills needed to operate a cash register and/or make change.
· Has the ability to carry out assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
