Lab Tech
Organization: Highland District Hospital
Hours: PRN (Minimum 2 SHIFTS A MONTH)
Job Duties: The Laboratory Technologist performs various chemical, microscopic and microbiological tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
He/she draws blood and receives or obtains various specimens for laboratory analysis.
He/she reports laboratory test results in a timely manner.
The Laboratory Technologist will effectively communicate with and interact with all laboratory personnel, physicians, patients and other allied health professionals.

Job Accountabilities:
Actively supports Highland District Hospital’s mission to serve the community by providing accessible, efficient, quality health care in an atmosphere of compassion and excellence.
Has the education and training to perform routine laboratory procedures efficiently and independently, to assess and resolve most technical problems independently and to have the judgment necessary to consult a supervisor when an unsolved problem would compromise patient care.
Is qualified and therefore may be asked to assume supervisory responsibilities if requested and may be asked to assist in teaching and/or evaluative capacity if requested.
Will actively initiate action and participate in his/her continuing education program and demonstrate a consistent, reliable attendance pattern.
Is required to be knowledgeable of safety standards and practices as mandated by OSHA, CLIA, TJC, CAP.
Perform maintenance of equipment as scheduled.
Follow laboratory and hospital policies relating to safety, attendance, continuous quality improvement and confidentiality.
Follow the laboratory and hospital policies relating to obtaining, processing and receiving specimens.
Answer the telephone in a polite, friendly and helpful manner.
Education – Required: An Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician and evidence of eligibility or having passed a board of registry examination at the technician (MLT) level administered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Confirmation of successful completion of the board of registry exam for MLT certification is required within 1 year of the employee’s hire date.
Education – Preferred: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a physical, chemical or biological science or; an Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology and evidence of eligibility or having passed a board of registry examination at the technologist (MT/MLS) level administered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
