Laboratory Lead Technologist (Supervisor)

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Aid/Central Processor is responsible for performing a number of routine tasks related to the gathering and processing of specimens and return results.
Processes patient specimens and prepares them for testing by the Laboratory Department including test ordering, labeling of specimens, centrifugation, and specimen preparation.
Skilled at obtaining blood specimens and performs pre-analytical processing of patient samples based on established laboratory procedures.
Position Accountabilities: Gathers and distributes tests to the appropriate area(s) for completion.
Actively review outstanding orders, timed specimens, answer phone calls and questions regarding completion of tests, readiness of blood bank units, and alert the techs of state needs.
Responsible for re-draw requests, specimen rejections and/or contacting offices and home health with specimen issues.
This position will be required to centrifuge specimens, pour off frozen samples, ensure room temperature sample integrity, and review rejected specimens stored are completed as needed.
Capable of collecting/ordering blood from neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and disabled individuals, and receive or obtain various specimens for laboratory analysis.
Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all patients by actions and words.
Responsible for completing the specimen manifest and/or batch sent to LabCorp for send out testing.
Responsible for adding urine samples to instruments, running waved kit testing, and providing results to the Laboratory Technicians for result entry.
Load/unload blood culture bottles from the incubation system and to alert technicians of positive/negative results.
This position will not be given resulting privileges but instructions as to how reports are delivered to the technical staff members.
Demonstrates good communication and organizational skills with patients, coworkers, physicians, ancillary personnel, and the community.
Meets and greets every quest with an immediate smile, eye contact, proper body language, and an appropriate greeting.
Performs venipuncture and capillary procedures, entering patient information and ordering tests into the laboratory information system.
Participates in continuing education programs and demonstrate a consistent, reliable attendance pattern.
Be knowledgeable of safety standards and practices as mandated by OSHA, CLIA, TJC, CAP.
Attends all mandatory in-services and department meetings.
Obtain send out specimen requirements, and results, completing all specimen logs and send out specimen aliquot requirements.

Position Qualifications: Education – Required: A high school diploma or GED is required.
Education – Preferred: Successful completion of Phlebotomy training program.
Certification by a National Phlebotomy Association.
Minimum Experience: At least 2 years working in a clinical Laboratory Preferred Experience: 5 years of experience obtaining venipuncture/capillary specimens, understanding specimen requirements for processing, send out testing, and proper specimen quality requirements.
