Phlebotomist II Organization: Highland District Hospital Location: Offices of Highland Health Providers/Weekend Rotation at HDH Hours: Full-Time (64 to 80 hours per pay) Position Summary: The Phlebotomist II is responsible for interviewing and gathering complete and accurate data to complete the registration process accurately and efficiently in a courteous and professional manner.
Obtains appropriate signatures, notifies patients/guest of hospital regulations, policies and services.
Maintain patients right to privacy and confidentiality.
The Phlebotomist II is responsible for verification of the interfacing capability between the office information system, All-Scripts, and the hospital information system, CPSI Evident.
Obtains corrections to the system that does not follow the patient’s legal identification card and/or insurance information.
The Phlebotomist II will draw blood and receive or obtain various specimens for laboratory analysis.
The position requires that specimens be obtained from neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric and disabled individuals.
He/she answers incoming phone calls and interacts continuously with outpatients.
The position may be used to fill opening in the hospital based laboratory by obtaining blood and laboratory specimen from outpatients, emergency room patients, and inpatients.
He/she will frequently communicate results to physicians, patients and other allied health professionals.
He/she reviews printed copies, making them available to various locations and persons.
The Phlebotomist II is responsible for completing the specimen manifest and/or batch sent to the hospital laboratory for testing or send out.
The position requires access to the send out laboratory system for testing requirement verification, obtaining results and registration of send out testing.
The position requires specimen preparation for testing, such as aliquoting specimens with special shipping requirements.

Job Duties: Responsible for interviewing patients or their representative, obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file, including emergency numbers, insurance and employment information.
Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all patients by actions and words.
Demonstrates good communication and organizational skills with patients, coworkers, physicians, ancillary personnel, and the community.
Meets and greets every quest with an immediate smile, eye contact, proper body language, and an appropriate greeting.
Performs venipuncture and capillary procedures, entering patient information and ordering tests into the laboratory information system.
Participates in continuing education programs and demonstrate a consistent, reliable attendance pattern.
Be knowledgeable of safety standards and practices as mandated by OSHA, CLIA, TJC, CAP.
Attends all mandatory in-services and department meetings.
Obtain send out specimen requirements, and results, completing all specimen logs and send out specimen aliquot requirements.
Copy’s and files reports.

Responsible for confirming patient information between the office information system and the hospital information system, ensuring transmission of orders and results.

Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Competencies Required: Is expected to be skilled at performing venipuncture and capillary procedures and at entering patient information and patient results into the laboratory information system.
Is expected to be familiar with laboratory terminology.
Is required to be knowledgeable of safety standards and practices as mandated by OSHA, CLIA, TJC, CAP.
Willing to work as a team member.
Participate in continuing education.
Maintains a consistent and reliable attendance.
Able to work independently Supervises: None.
Physical Demands: L -the position requires corrected vision and color perception, and the use of two hands.
Light lifting (up to 25 pounds), and considerable standing and walking will be required.
The Phlebotomist II must be physically and emotionally able to handle irregular hours with minimal absences.
The position requires the employee to be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
The position requires the successful completion of a medical examination after offer of hire has been made.
Work Environment: The position requires a tolerance of a stressful work environment and the ability to follow and direct oral and written instructions.
The position may receive exposure to blood borne pathogens and occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements.
Emergency and crisis situations are often present.
Work Schedule: Normally works an eight (8) hour shifts, Monday through Friday but additional hours may be necessary, including evening, nights and weekends.
Holiday rotation may be required.
Due to the requirement that all laboratory areas must be covered 24 hours a day and every day of the year, the position may require more hours to assure necessary coverage.
May also include flexible schedules to accommodate the hospital or office needs.
Must be willing to work according to hospital and office needs.
