Department Clerk/MA - Neurology (FT)

Hours: Full-time 64-80 per pay period
Position Summary:
Responsible for coordinating office workflow including scheduling patients, answering and transferring phone calls, transcribing letters to referral sources, and other written material as deemed necessary by department supervisor.
Checking referral sources for current licensure; monitors release/return of charts, orders supplies as needed.
As the “face of the office” this role is extremely important to provide the highest level of customer service and represent the office values and culture.
Position Accountabilities:
Answers phone calls and written communications professionally and follows through appropriately, routes calls, takes complete and accurate messages, handles patient complaints in a professional manner.
Greets patients and other customers in a polite, prompt, helpful manner.
Provides any necessary instructions/directions.
Informs physician/providers or office staff of patient or customer’s arrival.
Verifies and updates patient demographic information with each visit.
Obtains patient information including insurance information and prior medical history.
Types and copies department documents.
Assists in monitoring release/return of all patient information and records.
Assists in coordinating scheduling of patients and prioritizes waiting lists accurately.
Maintains office areas in an organized manner including chart filing, ordering office supplies, and submitting repair orders as approved.
Escorts outpatients safely from waiting area into treatment area in same manner in which patient arrived in department and notifies appropriate staff.
Responsible for flow of waiting room and triaging patients as scheduled.
Shares preliminary information with patients as needed.
Participates in performance improvement and quality control activities; assists in maintaining compliance with internal and external regulatory standards.
Performs duties in a cost-effective manner, in an effort to avoid waste of hospital resources without jeopardizing quality of care and service.
Supports and upholds established hospital and department policies, procedures, goals, safety, environmental, and infection control objectives.
Maintains positive behaviors, approaches, attitude and commitment to interpersonal services toward patients, visitors and /or co-workers.
Promotes teamwork and collaborative culture.
Serves as role model for the organization’s 5-Star Customer Service Excellence initiative.
Responsible for abiding by and adhering to all HDH Corporate Compliance Program initiative and standards.
Responsible for compliance with HDH safety standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical service setting with computer experience and office systems.
Medical Assisting Training Program or Certified Medical Assistant designation preferred.
