*Patient Assessment and Monitoring:*
* Conduct thorough assessments of patients' cardiovascular status, including vital signs, cardiac rhythm, hemodynamic parameters, and neurological status.
* Monitor patients closely for signs of deterioration or complications, such as arrhythmias, hypotension, or respiratory distress, and intervene promptly as needed.
* *Critical Care Nursing Interventions:*
* Administer medications and titrate drips according to physician orders, including vasoactive agents, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants, while closely monitoring patient response and potential side effects.
* Perform advanced nursing procedures as needed, such as arterial line insertion, central venous catheter placement, and mechanical ventilation management.
* Assist with bedside procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, or cardioversion.
* *Collaborative Multidisciplinary Care:*
* Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
* Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and timely interventions in response to changes in patient status.
* *Patient and Family Education:*
* Educate patients and their families about their cardiac condition, treatment options, medications, and self-care techniques to promote optimal recovery and prevent complications.
* Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families facing the stress and uncertainty of critical illness and cardiac surgery.
* *Clinical Documentation and Charting:*
* Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, medications, and responses to treatment in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and best practices for documentation and charting in the CVICU setting.
* *Quality Improvement and Evidence-Based Practice:*
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and performance improvement activities aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction in the CVICU.
* Stay informed about current evidence-based practices, guidelines, and advancements in cardiovascular nursing care through continuing education, professional development, and participation in professional organizations.
* *Emergency Response and Crisis Management:*
* Demonstrate proficiency in responding to cardiac emergencies, such as acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, or cardiac arrest, by implementing advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) protocols and interventions.
* Remain calm and focused under pressure while providing rapid assessment, intervention, and resuscitation in high-stress situations.
* *Leadership and Team Collaboration:*
* Serve as a resource and mentor to less experienced staff members, including new nurses, nursing students, and nursing assistants, by providing guidance, support, and clinical expertise.
