The Unit Secretary collaborates with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care and transition out of the hospital setting.
He/She is responsible for performing duties related to patient admission, transfer, and discharge, communication with patients, guests and staff, electronic health records maintenance, and other duties of a clerical nature.
The Unit Secretary assists with coordinating the communication and organization of their inpatient unit.
This individual provides clerical support to the care team including but not limited to: EMR navigation, scheduling appointments, preparing forms or paperwork, greeting patients/families, ordering supplies, handling mail and answering telephones.
Duties/Responsibilities
Primary receptionist for the patient cares area: greeting and directing visitors and guests in a compassionate and respectful manner.
Answers the phone in a timely, friendly and courteous manner, directing calls and taking messages appropriately.
Maintains, orders, and restocks supplies for the unit and maintains a neat and organized workspace.
Professionally communicates pertinent and timely information to care team members in both a verbal and written manner.
Coordinate and prioritize tasks and able to multitask while maintaining daily flow of the unit in a complex, rapidly changing environment.
Able to appropriately process the flow and events occurring within the unit.
Electronic health records management – the ability to use different electronic health records software is a major plus for unit secretaries: Coordinating admissions, discharges and transfers of patients and maintains medical records and release of information for continuation of care via many avenues, including faxing.
Attention to detail-ensures accurate information is processed for every patient as well as effectively manage various administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (include):
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required Certification: CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification
Required Experience: One (1) year experience in a medical or customer service environment or experience of similar nature
Position Type/Hours:
Part Time (60%) Night Shift; Hours: 6:00 pm - 6:00 am.
All shifts will require every other weekend hours.
