The Non-State Tested Nursing Assistant (NSTNA) is responsible for performing the day-to-day activities of the nursing department in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Essential Functions Statement(s)
Assists with lifting, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc, keeping with specific resident safety needs
Assists residents in ambulation, with or without self-help devices, as instructed
Performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures, as instructed
Ensures call lights are within reach of residents and answers call lights promptly
Ensures residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently
Ensures residents’ personal care needs are being met in accordance with residents’ wishes
Reports all changes in residents' condition to supervisor promptly
Changes bed linens
Straightens dresser tops and stands
Maintains cleanliness of resident units, central bathing area, treatment/supply rooms, workrooms, linen closets
Identifies and reports abnormal skin conditions
Turns bedfast residents as instructed
Provides Range of Motion exercises
Assists with application of adaptive devices
Assists with food service procedures by ensuring residents are positioned appropriately for meals with appropriate utensils within reach; serving food; assisting with proper hydration; assisting with snack distribution and reporting
Follows all appropriate safety and security guidelines, procedures and protocol for residents in the special care
Maintains appropriate, effective communication with residents, and with residents' family or other significant relationships
Provides all care, treatment and services with appropriate dementia care protocols
Participates in relevant educational and training activities as appropriate
Documents in Point Click Care accurately and timely
Performs all other duties as assigned or directed

Skills & Abilities
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Preferred; Must have completed Nurse Aide Training: Required
Experience: No prior experience necessary
Computer Skills: Must be able to proficiently operate a computer, the Internet and basic office equipment
Certifications & Licenses: Active certificate conferred by the Ohio Department of Health's Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP); Must participate in Continuing Education OR eligibility to enter such program, graduate and pass a State Approved Competency evaluation within 120 days from the date of employment; Must obtain and maintain mandatory, state, federal requirements and certifications for practice or occupation
Other Requirements: Ability to communicate effectively with residents and nursing staff; Ability to read, write, understand and speak the English language; Special care/dementia care employees will have additional training in caring for and treating dementia residents; Must be able to work with elderly residents, families and other health care staff members; Must be able to adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook
